Fall Classic Final Game Captures 51 Million Audience Members In the United States, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The nail-biting extra-inning clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a total 51M watchers in the US, Canada, and Japanese markets. MLB announced this represents the highest-rated World Series Game 7 since the 1991 contest between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game averaged 27.33 million audience members on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase compared to the previous finale between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked 4th, Game 4 was 7th, the fifth game came in eighth, and the third game finished in thirteenth position.

Global Viewership Figures

In Canada, the climactic game recorded 11.6M watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English-language program in the country after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12M. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – where World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six innings – recorded over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a single network in Japan.

Overall Totals and Trends

The full seven-game series drew 15.71M viewers on the Fox network, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded audience growth for two straight years.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the complete American average reached 16.1 million. The total Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1M in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded over 8 million watchers, an 8% rise over last year and Fox’s strongest playoff ratings after the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the World Series was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen different tongues.
